founder + creative director
If you were to ask Katy a few years back what her idea of the perfect job would be, she would have said owning a women’s consignment boutique. She is a strong believer in sustainable fashion and has shopped consignment for as long as she can remember. When she had the opportunity to purchase the store in January of 2021, she jumped at the chance. Six months later, Katybird was born!
Katy grew up in Washington, DC. She graduated from Denison University in Granville, Ohio where she met Sam, her husband of 25 years. Katy and Sam moved to Seattle in 1994. She worked in college admissions before joining the bakesale brigade after the birth of her first son, Jack, in 2000. Henry followed in 2002 and five years later, Jim rounded out the Coleman family. Their family also includes several furry creatures; their black lab Hattie, cat Homie and kitten Fred, who are frequent guests in the store.
Katy’s personal style is a blend of contemporary and classic street style with a little bit of an edge.
